BRCGS – The Global Standard for Food Safety

Consumers have a right to be supplied with safe, high quality quality food. The BRCGS is a global food safety standard used worldwide. The standard specifies the food safety, quality and operational requirements for food manufacturers and foodservice organisations to meet current industry expectations and legal obligations to protect consumers.

The BRCGS Food Safety standard provides a framework to manage product safety, integrity, legality, quality and the operational controls in the food and food ingredient manufacturing, processing and packing industry.

How does workwear form part of this standard?

The BRC Global Standard requires that an effective HACCP (hazard analysis and critical control point) program must be developed and implemented, based on the requirements of the internationally recognized Codex Alimentarius system.

Senior Management has to be committed to implement the BRC global standard and to continually develop a food safety culture in their organisation. All personnel performing work that affects product safety and quality must be competent to carry out their activity. Regular training and personal hygiene standards are to be encouraged, and suitable protective clothing must be issued on-site.
